Overview

Acton sits just west of Canberra’s central business district, framed by Black Mountain and the southern shore of Lake Burley Griffin. The Australian National University dominates the suburb, and the 2021 census recorded 2,848 residents, the majority of whom are students. A compact urban feel is enhanced by New Acton, a purpose‑built precinct around Acton House that was rolled out between 2006 and 2019.
