Gardiner Street lies in Downer’s inner‑north setting, bordered by Northbourne Avenue, Antill Street and Philip Avenue. Mature pine and gum trees, originally planted as a 1930s CSIRO windbreak, line the street and are being replaced with newer local varieties, while the historic CSIRO community centre nearby has been refurbished with a café, a veterinary clinic and a bronze kangaroo sculpture.

The street enjoys strong transport links, sitting less than a kilometre from the Swinden Street Metro station and close to the Dickson Library, Dickson District Playing Fields and the suburb’s local oval between Frencham, Melba, Bonython and Bradfield Streets. Proximity to the Dickson Centre, nearby schools and parks makes everyday amenities easily reachable for residents.
