The eastern part of Fadden is built on alluvium, while the western side consists of Deakin Volcanics rhyolite that can appear green‑grey, purple or cream. This rhyolite dates from the Silurian age (approximately 414 ± 9 million years) and a fault with a quartz outcrop extends north‑north‑west from Macarthur Hill.
