Higgins Place sits within the Belconnen district of Canberra and, like the rest of the suburb, carries a judicial theme – every street is named after a judge, a nod to its namesake, Henry Bournes Higgins. The streetscapes are set on Silurian‑age rocks, chiefly green‑grey rhyodacite and purple‑green dacite that underlie the south and centre of the area.

The neighbourhood’s former community hub – a supermarket built in 1968 by local entrepreneurs – was recorded as abandoned by 2024, and the suburb’s two government schools have also closed, leaving limited local amenities.
