Ligar Place sits within Holder’s orderly streetscape, where every road is named after a prominent Australian surveyor, and the suburb is dominated by low‑rise homes constructed mainly between 1970 and 1972, many of which look out toward Mount Stromlo to the west and the Molonglo Valley beyond.

Public transport arrived with bus services in September 1971 and the main arterial Dixon Drive runs along the edge of the neighbourhood, while nearby amenities include St Jude Catholic Primary, Canberra Montessori School, St Jude Catholic Church, community facilities in the former high school and health services such as Therapy ACT.
