Hume is a light‑industrial suburb of Canberra named after explorer Hamilton Hume, with streets honoring Australian industrialists and businessmen. Its built environment is almost entirely industrial, and there is little residential development; the 2021 Census recorded a population of 395, a sharp rise from six in 2006, driven largely by the Alexander Maconochie Centre.
