Banksmeadow sits 11 km south of Sydney’s central business district on the northern shore of Botany Bay, within the Bayside Council. Although the suburb is dominated by industrial facilities linked to Port Botany, oil terminals, the Sydenham‑Botany goods railway and a large chemical plant, it still offers coastal recreation at the Foreshore (Botany) Beach and green space in Banksmeadow Park and the nearby Botany Golf Club. Pubs such as the Botany Bay Hotel, several reserves (Mahroot, Gwea, Womeai and Sir Joseph Banks Park) and the Westfield Eastgardens shopping centre and Hoyts cinema provide everyday amenities within walking distance.
