Overview

Bombala sits on the Bombala River in the Monaro region, about 485 km south‑southwest of Sydney. At the 2021 Census the wider area had 1,892 residents, with 1,136 in the town centre. The community combines grazing, timber and tourism, and hosts farms that raise meat rabbits, lavender and other herbs. Known as ‘Platypus Country’, the river draws wildlife lovers, while cold winters with frequent frost and occasional snow give the town an alpine character. The annual Bombala Show celebrates local agriculture and craft, and the Bombala Blue Heelers rugby league team adds a strong sporting spirit.
