Chippendale sits on Sydney’s southern CBD fringe, bounded by Broadway, Cleveland Street, Central railway station and the University of Sydney. The suburb is well‑served by public transport, with Central station and Railway Square bus interchange nearby and several cycling links, including the Broadway Cycle Link and the Glebe‑to‑Ultimo Cycleway. A mix of residential towers and low‑rise homes line the western side, while the eastern edge hosts offices, warehouses, cafés and pubs, anchored by the large Central Park development that combines commercial space with high‑density apartments. At the 2021 census the population was 7,803, with a vibrant multicultural community, only 30 % were Australian‑born and over a third speak Mandarin, Indonesian or Thai at home.
