Collarenebri is a small riverside town of 638 residents (2021 Census) in northern New South Wales, situated on the Barwon River about 75 km northeast of Walgett. Named “place of flowers”, the community enjoys local fishing and opportunities for fossicking topaz, agate and petrified wood. A strong Aboriginal presence is evident in the well‑maintained Aboriginal cemetery and the indigenous radio station YAAMA‑FM 95.9. Sports life centres on the Collarenebri Bulldogs rugby league team.
The town lies on the Gwydir Highway, 16 km from the former rail hub at Pokataroo, providing road links to regional centres. Housing includes heritage homes from around 1910 alongside newer family dwellings that support cotton, wheat, sheep and beef farms. Local amenities feature a hospital, police station, school and the heritage‑listed Collarenebri Aboriginal Cemetery.
