Collector, NSW 2581
Overview
Collector is a small village on the Federal Highway in New South Wales, positioned halfway between Goulburn and the Australian Capital Territory and just seven kilometres north of Lake George. The 2021 Census recorded 376 residents in the village and its surrounding district. The town was bypassed in June 1988 when a new bridge over the Collector Creek floodplain gave all‑weather road access to Canberra, keeping the community linked to centres.
Today Collector enjoys a country lifestyle supported by local wineries such as Lerida Estate, Lake George Winery and award‑winning Collector Wines, and the annual Pumpkin Festival with market stalls, live music and vintage farm displays. A small public primary school serves families, while the heritage‑listed Bushranger Hotel adds historic character. Growing as a commuter haven for Goulburn and Canberra, the village offers a mix of rural homes and newer residences that appeal to those seeking a village atmosphere within easy driving distance of larger cities.
