Collector, NSW 2581

Overview

Collector is a small village on the Federal Highway midway between Goulburn and the Australian Capital Territory, about seven kilometres north of Lake George. At the 2021 census the village and its surrounding district recorded 376 residents. The highway bypass of June 1988 provides access to Canberra, making Collector a commuter base for those working in Goulburn or Canberra, and has encouraged a mix of village homes with newer dwellings.

The surrounding Lake George wine region hosts several wineries, including Lerida Estate and Collector Wines. Since 2003 the annual Collector Village Pumpkin Festival offers market stalls, live music and vintage farm displays. Education is provided by Collector Public School (K‑6). Heritage highlights are the Bushranger Hotel on the Federal Highway and the controversial Dreamer’s Gate sculpture.

Region type mix: Regional 100%.
