Eden, NSW 2551
Overview
Eden sits on the southern coast of New South Wales, 478 km south of Sydney, and is the state’s most southerly town. With a 2021 census population of 3,425, it enjoys a relaxed seaside lifestyle backed by rugged cliffs, Aslings Beach and the safe boating inlet of Lake Curalo. The town’s natural harbour supports a bustling fishing fleet and offers excellent sailing, whale‑watching cruises and easy access to the third‑deepest natural harbour in the southern hemisphere, making outdoor recreation a year‑round draw.
Local amenities include a range of accommodation, cafés and restaurants catering to tourists, the community‑run 2SEA FM radio station, and the Eden Killer Whale Museum celebrating the area’s whaling heritage. The Port of Eden, the largest fishing port in the state, handles woodchip exports, cruise ships and a Defence wharf, providing good transport links, while historic subdivision of former cattle‑grazing lands has created a mix of older heritage homes and newer housing options.
