Jembaicumbene, NSW 2622
Overview
Nestled 8 km along the Braidwood–Majors Creek Road in the Southern Tablelands, Jembaicumbene is a tranquil valley on the route to Majors Creek. Set on the traditional lands of the Walbanga people, the locality retains the quiet character of a former gold‑rush village, with fine old trees and the up‑turned creek banks that echo its mining past.
Although the village centre is now virtually a ghost town, several heritage buildings survive, most notably the 1860 Jembaicumbene Steam Flour Mill, which has been repurposed for modern use. In its heyday the settlement boasted a hotel, post office, blacksmith, school and two churches, and today a scattering of historic homes and rural properties give the area a mixed housing fabric. Access is provided by Majors Creek Road, the former main street, linking residents to nearby towns.
