Lakemba sits 12 km south‑west of Sydney’s CBD in the City of Canterbury‑Bankstown. The 2021 Census counted 17,092 residents, with only 32 % born in Australia and a strong presence of Bangladeshi, Indian, Pakistani, Myanmar and Lebanese communities; more than 60 % identify as Muslim.
