Nestled on a ridge‑top within Wollemi National Park, Mountain Lagoon is a small village north of Bilpin in the City of Hawkesbury. The community enjoys a distinctive natural backdrop: the lagoon itself was formed by geological tilting of the plateau, creating a water feature that sits above the typical lake‑forming elevation. Though the lagoon lies on private land, it is visible from Sams Way, a road that loops around the water and showcases an avenue of exotic trees and shrubs whose autumn and spring colours contrast vividly with the surrounding evergreen native flora.
