Overview

Smeaton Grange is an industrial suburb on Sydney’s south‑west fringe, situated within the Camden Council local government area. The landscape is dominated by warehouses and commercial buildings, including a 2.11‑hectare Amazon Web Services data centre purchased in July 2017. Historically the land was home to the Muringong of the Darug nation, later settled by John Macarthur in 1805 and briefly used as a World War II army encampment.

Residents and workers are served by Magdalene Catholic High School, opened in 2000 on Smeaton Grange Road, providing secondary education to the immediate area. Local governance falls under Camden Council’s north ward, represented by Mayor Lara Symkowiak and councillors David Bligh and Peter Sidgreaves, while the suburb lies in the federal electorate of Macarthur and the state seat of Camden. Although its character is primarily commercial, the presence of education and transport links to nearby railway stations supports a functional lifestyle for employees and families.
