Overview

South Wolumla is set on the hilly coastal hinterland of New South Wales, about 234 km south of Canberra and between Bega and Merimbula. The town features predominantly low‑density housing surrounded by cleared grazing land for beef, dairy and sheep, and sees a modest tourist influx during peak holiday periods. At the 2016 census the locality recorded 703 residents.

The main street hosts a small commercial area with a hotel/pub, a hairdresser and a general store that also serves as a newsagent and post office, alongside a volunteer Rural Fire Service station and a community memorial hall. Families benefit from a public school (K‑6) established in 1882 and an Anglican church. Public transport is provided by the South East and Tablelands bus route 890, which runs several times daily between Eden, Merimbula and Bega, and the town is linked to high‑speed internet via an NBN satellite ground station.
