Overview
Leanyer lies on the traditional Country and waterways of the Larrakia people as a northern suburb of Darwin, NT. The name, first on 1869 survey plans, is thought to come from an Aboriginal word, and its streets are named after northern coastal features and rivers. After a World II army post and equipment storage site, residential development began in the 1970s, establishing a varied housing stock. The suburb recorded the territory’s highest wet‑season rainfall in 2011, with 3,160 mm during the 2010/11 season.Streets in Leanyer
