The Gardens, NT 0820
Overview
The Gardens is an inner‑suburban pocket of Darwin that sits on the traditional country and waterways of the Larrakia people. Its name comes from the nearby George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens, home to one of the Territory’s largest palm collections, and the area once hosted experimental plantings of sugar cane and cotton. A modest residential enclave grew beside the gardens in the late‑1960s, later incorporated into the suburb when the Palmerston Gardens label was dropped in 1984.
Living here means easy access to a lively mix of recreation and culture: Gardens Oval and nearby parks host sport and community events, while the annual Darwin Beer Can Regatta and Bass in the Grass music festival add a festive edge. Within a short walk you’ll find Mindil Beach, the Skycity Casino, Mindil Beach Casino Resort, several schools, including Darwin High School and the Northern Territory School of Distance Education, and the Museum & Art Gallery of the Northern Territory, making the suburb a convenient base for families and active lifestyles.
Region type mix: Metro 100%.
