Avoca lies on the south‑western edge of Bundaberg, Queensland, bordered by the Burnett River to the north and west and by Millbank and the Isis Highway to the east. At the 2021 Census the suburb recorded 4,912 residents. The area is primarily residential, with pockets of crop growing and grazing on native vegetation near the river, giving a blend of suburban homes and semi‑rural character.

Residents enjoy easy access to Sugarland Plaza, a major shopping centre opened in 1978 that houses Woolworths, Big W, Best & Less and more than 65 specialty stores.
