Buccan is a low‑density, semi‑rural locality in the City of Logan, situated just south of Waterford and east of the Logan River. At the 2021 Census it was home to 2,134 residents, many of whom live on larger acreage bushland blocks that give the area a spacious, country feel. The suburb retains a historic agricultural character, with remnants of early sugar‑cane and dairy farms reflected in its open landscapes.

With no formal town centre, residents rely on nearby Logan Village, Waterford and Beenleigh for shopping and services. Road connectivity is provided by Waterford‑Tamborine Road (State Route 95) running north‑south, while the former Beaudesert railway line remains as a corridor. The suburb boasts several green spaces, including Buccan Conservation Park, Newstead Park and Samuel & Agnes Smith Park, offering easy access to nature. Education needs are met by schools in adjacent suburbs such as Logan Village State School and Windaroo Valley State High School.
