Overview
Burrum Heads is a relaxed coastal community on the Fraser Coast where Hervey Bay meets the Burrum River. Over half the locality lies within the Burrum Coast National Park and the area is now part of the Great Sandy Marine Park, offering bird‑watching and sunset views from the Lion Park boat ramp. The foreshore boardwalk, opened in 2021, links the town to the river and its fishing and boating ramps.
The 2021 census counted 2,538 people. Residents have a public library with Wi‑Fi, a bowls club, tennis courts, an amateur fishing club and a medical centre with pharmacy and pathology in the shopping centre. Community facilities include the Christian Community Church, a war‑memorial‑fronted hall and a neighbourhood centre. The Hervey Bay‑Burrum Heads Road provides road links, while the nearest primary and secondary schools are in Torbanlea and Pialba.
