Somerset Dam is a small rural town on the slopes of Mount Brisbane, on the western bank of the Stanley River just below the Somerset Dam wall. The 2021 census recorded 78 residents living in homes established in the 1930s when the settlement was laid out with gravel streets, electricity and reticulated water for dam‑building families. The locality borders Lake Somerset and the 3,228‑hectare Deer Reserve National Park, providing immediate access to water‑based and bush recreation.
