Somerset Dam, QLD 4312
Overview
Nestled on the western bank of the Stanley River beneath the wall of Somerset Dam, the rural town of Somerset Dam offers a tranquil lifestyle framed by Mount Brisbane, Lake Somerset and the Deer Reserve National Park. In the 2021 Census the locality recorded just 78 residents, many living in the original homes built in 1935 when the town was laid out with gravel streets, electricity, reticulated water and sewerage to house dam‑construction workers and their families.
Today the community enjoys a modest range of amenities: Coronation Hall on Short Street serves as a venue for events and weddings, while St Joseph’s Catholic Church remains an active place of worship. The former St Mark’s Anglican Church has been converted to holiday accommodation. There are no schools in the town; families travel to Toogoolawah or Kilcoy for primary and secondary education via the local road network that links Somerset Dam with its neighbouring towns.
Region type mix: Metro 100%.
