Scarborough Street runs through Southport’s central business district, where the Art Deco Hotel Cecil anchors the streetscape at its intersection with Nerang Street and the nearby Southport Mall. The thoroughfare is lined by Australia Fair, a multi‑level indoor shopping centre that fronts both Scarborough and the Gold Coast Highway and fronts 233 stores and a cinema, while the suburb’s skyline is dotted with a growing cluster of high‑rise towers that define the CBD’s contemporary housing profile.

The street is a transport hub: opposite the hotel sits a G:link light‑rail station and, a few metres north, the major northern bus interchange, while the Southport bus station itself is located on Scarborough Street, providing frequent services to the northern suburbs. Residents and visitors also enjoy nearby amenities such as Guardian Angels’ Catholic Church (99 Scarborough St), the Southport Branch Library, and the Southport Broadwater Parklands with its pier, aquatic centre and waterfront views of the Broadwater.
