There is no reticulated water supply or sewerage system on the plateau. Residents rely on rainwater tanks, bore water and septic systems for their water and waste needs.
The plateau is classified as a rural area with zoning restrictions that prohibit subdivision of land, so properties cannot be further divided.
Many residents commute to the Gold Coast or Brisbane for work, using a network of roads that provide multiple access points to the plateau and ensure continuity during floods or maintenance.
The area has a subtropical highland climate with about 1,550 mm of annual rainfall, cooler temperatures than the lowlands (average highs 17 °C in winter and 25 °C in summer), and around 103 clear days per year.
The plateau includes an Important Bird Area that supports species such as Albert's lyrebirds, pale‑yellow robins, green catbirds, regent bowerbirds, glossy black cockatoos, as well as platypuses, short‑beaked echidnas and Richmond birdwings.
A public library operated by the Scenic Rim Regional Council is on the corner of Main Street and Yuulong Road, and several radio stations (e.g., 90.9 Sea FM, Hot Tomato) are within about 1 km.
Rotary Lookout is on the western boundary of the locality, the Gallery Walk on Long Road offers art galleries and cafés, and Hampton Estate Wines is a short 1‑2 km drive away.
The plateau was formed by a lava flow from the Mount Warning volcanic eruption about 22 million years ago, creating the rich volcanic soils that support the region’s agriculture.
