The suburb was officially named by the Queensland Place Names Board in 1971.
The area was originally part of Slacks Creek and was purchased by the McBride family, English immigrants who moved to Brisbane from Penang, Malaysia. The suburb later expanded significantly after housing developments were built west of Drews Road between 2001 and 2006.
