The Gap boasts more than 45 parks with playgrounds, barbecues and dog‑off‑leash areas, all within a short distance of the home. The nearby Ashgrove Golf Club adds an 18‑hole course for golf enthusiasts.

Waterworks Road, the main arterial road through The Gap, runs close to the property and links to Brisbane city via Musgrave Road. The suburb is also served by a reliable public bus network, making travel within and beyond The Gap convenient.

The Gap was named for the valley between Mount Coot‑tha and Enoggera Hill, forming a natural ‘gap’ in the Taylor Range. Originally forested and used for timber, the area transitioned to farming after European settlement in the mid‑1800s.

Local amenities include The Gap Village shopping centre, a police station on Waterworks Road, a nearby Queensland Fire & Rescue station, and an ambulance service in Ashgrove. The suburb also benefits from a fortnightly mobile library service and several churches of various denominations.

On 16 November 2008 The Gap was hit by a severe microburst, causing extensive tree damage and roof losses across many homes. The event is remembered as one of the suburb’s most significant recent storms.
