Thursday Island (“TI”) sits just 39 km north of Cape York in Far North Queensland. At the 2021 Census the locality had 2,805 residents, 69.1 % of whom identify as Indigenous Australians. The island’s compact 3.5 km² layout blends a vibrant multicultural heritage, still evident in its pearling legacy and community events, with modern conveniences such as a sporting complex, gym, public library, pharmacy, general store, butcher, bank, hospital, courts and a range of cafés and shops.
