With a 2021 census population of 3,944, it sits on the eastern edge of the Bruce Highway and is bisected by the North Coast railway line, centred on the Woombye railway station. Translink trains and buses provide numerous daily services to Brisbane, while the Woombye–Montville Road links the town southward.
