Before European settlement the area was inhabited by the Wangerriburra Clan of the Yugambeh language group, and the name Yarrabilba means “place of song”. During World War II the nearby Camp Cable was a military training base, and the Beaudesert railway line ran through the region from 1915 to 1955.
Yarrabilba was incorporated into Logan City following the local‑government amalgamations in March 2008.
The 2021 census recorded a population of 10,240 people living in Yarrabilba.
In 2010 it was announced that Yarrabilba would become a future city containing around 20,000 dwellings and housing up to 50,000 residents, forming part of a larger regional growth strategy.
As of March 2024 Yarrabilba consists of ten neighbourhoods: The Avenues, Birnam Views, Mallee Pocket, Oak Leaf, The Parks, The Retreat, Sandstone Ridge, Sunrise Crossing, Vista, and Wickham Rise.
The Darlington Parklands are situated between the Oak Leaf and Vista neighbourhoods on the corner of Darlington Drive and Yarrabilba Drive, providing open green space and walking tracks nearby.
Camp Cable, a historic World War II military training site, lies approximately 0.8 km away, and the former LOGAN VILLAGE TAMBORINE RD weather station is about 1 km from the property.
