As of March 2024 Yarrabilba comprises ten neighbourhoods: The Avenues, Birnam Views, Mallee Pocket, Oak Leaf, The Parks, The Retreat, Sandstone Ridge, Sunrise Crossing, Vista, and Wickham Rise.
Before European settlement the land was home to the Wangerriburra Clan, and the area contains two bora rings used for ceremonial singing. The Beaudesert railway line also passed through the area from 1915 to 1955.
The Darlington Parklands are situated between the Oak Leaf and Vista neighbourhoods on the corner of Darlington Drive and Yarrabilba Drive, providing nearby open space for recreation.

Yarrabilba was incorporated into Logan City following local government amalgamations in March 2008.
