Overview

Angaston sits on the eastern side of South Australia’s Barossa Valley, 77 km northeast of Adelaide. At 347 m elevation, one of the highest points in the valley, it receives about 561 mm of rain each year. The town is centred on wine, with Yalumba, Saltram and Lambert Estate nearby, and is flanked by the Old Union Chapel, Collingrove Homestead, Pioneer Park and the Memorial Reserve, offering a relaxed outdoor lifestyle.

Angaston was the terminus of the Barossa Valley railway line built in 1911; passenger service ended in 1968 and the former track from Nuriootpa is now a walking trail linking the town to surrounding areas. The town featured the finish of the first stage of the 2014 Tour Down Under, highlighting its scenic streets. Nearby, the Yalumba winery (2 km) and a local weather station provide convenient amenities.
