Ashton is a historic town in the Adelaide Hills, named in 1858 after George Hunt’s English home and rooted in the old English term for “ash‑tree town.” The centre revolves around the 1890‑era Ashton General Store and Bakery, which also housed the original post office, while the modern community post office opens each weekday from 8:30 am.
