The street’s relaxed, seaside atmosphere reflects its historic roots as a surveyed government town dating back to 1878.

Located about 20 km west of Maitland, High Street provides easy road access to the surrounding region, while a nearby boat ramp supports water‑based recreation. The only local amenity on the street is the general store, which reopened in late 2013 after a brief closure.
