Craigmore sits on the traditional lands of the Kaurna people and saw European settlement in the early 1850s. Modern residential development began in the 1970s, expanding with private estates throughout the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s, making it one of Adelaide’s longer suburbs.
The suburb borders the Adelaide Hills, offering lookout points on Craigmore Road and Uley Road where the Yorke Peninsula can be seen on clear days. Residents also enjoy the surrounding cattle grazing lands and wine‑growing areas at the foothills.
