Fisherman Bay, SA 5522
Overview
Fisherman Bay is a coastal locality at the northern tip of Yorke Peninsula in South Australia, administered by the District Council of Barunga West. Since 1 March 1974 the village has been owned by the Fisherman Bay Management Company, formed by the ten highest‑bidding residents who purchased the land from the Hornby family. The area is split into two unconnected zones around the inlet, with a small residential pocket just north of Port Broughton and a larger, largely uninhabited northern stretch that includes the historic former RAAF Gunnery Range.
The community contains roughly 400 dwellings and a modest retail hub comprising a shop, a petrol station and a community hall. Residents pay a modest annual fee for infrastructure managed by the company, which owns the roads, water and sewer services, while the council looks after the foreshore. Local life is anchored by the Fisherman Bay Progress Association, which hosts the annual Easter Races children’s sports day, offering a relaxed seaside lifestyle with essential amenities within easy reach.
