Gillman sits on Adelaide’s north‑western fringe within the City of Port Adelaide Enfield, part of the federal Division of Hindmarsh and the state seat of Port Adelaide. Historically a railway hub, the suburb still benefits from the main line that now branches over the Mary MacKillop Bridge, while the nearby Port Dock railway station provides easy rail access to the city. Its layout is dominated by industrial sites, with much of the land remaining in government hands after a recent sale to Veolia for a waste‑to‑energy plant.
