Overview
Jerusalem is a residential suburb of Kadina on the Yorke Peninsula, officially gazetted in 1999 and governed by the Copper Coast Council. Surveyed in 1871 to meet housing demand from the nearby Wallaroo Mines, it formed one of four “occupation blocks” and was originally promoted as an “aristocratic” enclave of gentleman’s residences, giving the area a legacy of spacious homes amid a close‑knit community.
Today the suburb enjoys easy access to Kadina’s amenities – the town hall, Memorial School and Harvest Christian College lie within 2 kilometres, while Newland Park and the historic Hancock’s Billiard Saloon are just beyond. Religious life centres on the enduring Jerusalem Uniting Church, originally built as a Methodist chapel in 1922. Proximity to the Matta Dam, several historic mines and the main road network makes commuting and recreation straightforward, offering a blend of heritage charm and practical convenience.
