Keyneton lies 82 kilometres north‑east of Adelaide within the Mid Murray Council, set in the Eden Valley wine region. The town takes its name from English pastoralist Joseph Keynes, who settled the area in 1842, and his descendants continue to farm the surrounding countryside, giving the locality a strong agricultural character and a relaxed, country‑life atmosphere.
