Littlehampton is a village set in the Adelaide Hills on the Old Princes Highway, just a 35‑minute drive from Adelaide’s CBD via the South Eastern Freeway. At the 2016 census the community numbered 3,522 residents, residing in a settlement that dates back to 1849 when Benjamin Gray laid it out and named it after his Sussex hometown. By the 1890s the town was a bustling industrial hub with a sawmill, brewery, food manufacturers and five brick works; today Littlehampton Bricks, established in 1913, continues the town’s long‑standing manufacturing tradition.
The village offers a close‑knit lifestyle anchored by local services such as the volunteer Littlehampton Country Fire Service, part of the Heysen group. A historic United Church, built in 1862, served the community until 2020, and the disused Mount Barker Junction‑Mount Barker railway line still runs through the centre, echoing Littlehampton’s transport heritage while the nearby Old Princes Highway provides easy road access for commuters.
