The locality occupies the whole Hundred of Maude, a name adopted in 1918 after General Maude, and it retains the historic footprint of the former town of Florieton, once centered around a school opened in 1890. Today the landscape is dominated by saltbush grasslands that support pastoral farming, primarily sheep and cattle grazing, giving residents a tranquil, rural lifestyle amid wide open plains.
