Hargrave Street winds through a residential stretch of Northfield, a suburb of greater Adelaide that has been established since the 1850s. The streetscape is characterized by homes typical of a long‑standing community that grew alongside historic quarry and railway activity.

Transport links once included the Northfield railway line and the now‑closed Stockade railway station, reflecting the area’s early connectivity. Residents enjoy easy access to local amenities such as Northfield Primary School, Stockade Botanical Park, Yatala Labour Prison and the Hampstead rehabilitation centre, all within the suburb’s historic precinct.
