Oakbank is a leafy town set in the Adelaide Hills east of the city, within the Adelaide Hills Council. At the 2006 census the community numbered 473 residents, enjoying a relaxed rural atmosphere framed by the Onkaparinga Valley Road (SA B34). The town’s historic core is marked by a large oak tree planted from an acorn brought by its Scottish founders, and the nearby Amy Gillett Bikeway provides easy access to scenic cycling and walking trails. Oakbank’s social calendar centres on the famous Easter Racing Carnival, where thousands gather for the Great Eastern Steeplechase at the local racecourse.
