Paringa, SA 5340

Overview

Paringa is a small Riverland town in South Australia, 17 km from the Victoria border. The area is lined with vineyards and almond, citrus and stone‑fruit orchards, giving it a strong agricultural feel. Residents enjoy a relaxed lifestyle around the historic six‑span Paringa Bridge, which includes a lift span for houseboats and paddle‑steamers, and a riverfront picnic area beside it. The town provides a pub, a general store, a museum and an antiques shop, and supports farms along Murtho and Lindsay Point roads.

The bridge also carries the Sturt Highway, the main road between Adelaide and Sydney. Although the Barmera railway line, which made Paringa a terminus in 1913, closed in 1990, the heritage‑listed bridge remains a focal point. Recent years have seen many new homes built, creating a blend of established and modern housing as the town serves as a satellite community to larger Renmark, only 4 km upstream.

Region type mix: Regional 100%.
