Overview
Woodside is a town in the Adelaide Hills, situated between Balhannah and Lobethal and about 37 km northwest of Adelaide. It sits on Onkaparinga Valley Road (route B34), a key traffic hub linking Oakbank, Lobethal and Charleston, and lies 25 km east of the Adelaide CBD. Historically the town was served by the Mount Pleasant railway line (1918‑1963) and was home to Woodside Air Base until the aviation unit moved in 2016.
Residents enjoy a range of community facilities, including a swimming pool, library, grocery and second‑hand stores, playing fields and clubs for cricket, tennis, netball and bowls, plus two local pubs. The town also hosts specialty producers such as Woodside Cheese Wrights, Melbas Chocolate Factory, a Lobethal Bakery and the nearby Bird in Hand winery. Inverbrackie within the suburb houses Woodside Barracks, the base of the 16th Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery, adding a military presence to the local character.
