The suburb developed from the former Modbury Estate winery owned by S. Wynn & Company; the South Australian Land Commission purchased the land in 1974 and development began in 1985 under Delfin and the South Australian Urban Land Trust. The area was named Wynn Vale after the original landowner, S. Wynn.
