Overview

Binalong Bay is a tranquil coastal village in north‑east Tasmania, set at the southern end of the Bay of Fires and about 12 km north‑east of St Helens. The 2016 census recorded 290 residents, but the housing stock includes a large proportion of holiday dwellings that reflect its origins as a fishing hamlet. Residents and visitors enjoy a sandy beach, the small harbour known as the Gulch, and a local café, with nearby attractions such as Swimcart Beach, Tuckers Arm and Jeanneret Beach within a few kilometres.

Access is provided by Route C850 (Binalong Bay Road) which enters from the south‑west and runs through the settlement to the east, linking to Gardens Road (C848) heading north and Reids Road (C849) heading west. These routes connect the village with surrounding localities and the regional centre of St Helens, supporting both permanent residents and the seasonal tourism that defines the community’s mixed housing market.
