Brittons Swamp is a quiet rural locality in Tasmania’s north‑west, part of the Circular Head council area and about 17 km southwest of Smithton. The 2016 census recorded 50 residents, highlighting its low‑density character. Gazetted in 1973, the area was named after an early settler who ran a sawmill and later became a soldier settlement, giving it a modest timber and agricultural heritage.

Route A2 (Bass Highway) runs through Brittons Swamp, linking the community directly to Smithton and the broader Tasmanian road network. The locality’s housing consists of scattered rural dwellings on survey‑lined parcels, while residents travel to nearby Smithton for most services, shopping and schools. Nearby natural features such as the swamp and surrounding hills provide easy access to outdoor recreation.
